5 Photos Every Seller Should Take to Sell Their Yacht Faster

Simple, repeatable photography tips to make your listing stand out and shorten time-to-sale.

When it comes to selling your yacht, the right photographs can make all the difference. Listings with clear, professional-style images attract more attention and help buyers picture themselves onboard. While a full gallery is best, these five essential shots should top your list.

1) Exterior profile underway

A wide “hero” shot under sail or power shows the yacht in action. If you don’t have one, ask a friend to shoot from a chase boat (or safe drone). This communicates not just what the yacht looks like — but how she feels on the water.

2) Clean deck and cockpit

The cockpit is the social heart. Remove covers, coils, bottles and tools, then shoot from slightly above to show layout and seating. Aim for bright, even light and tidy lines.

3) Bright saloon or main cabin

Interior photos sell the lifestyle. Open hatches, switch on lights, and shoot from a corner to capture space. Make soft furnishings neat and keep surfaces clear.

4) Galley and heads (yes, really)

These spaces matter to cruising buyers. Photograph the cooker, fridge, storage and heads when they are spotless. A clean, functional image reassures buyers about upkeep.

5) Engine bay or technical area

Include at least one focused, well-lit image of the engine/primary system. Transparency builds trust and sets your listing apart.

Beyond the basics

  • Forward cabin/owner’s suite: Show sleeping arrangements and stowage.
  • Nav station/chart table: Conveys capability for passage-making.
  • Hull ashore: If recently lifted, include a clean hull/keel photo.
  • Inventory highlights: Tender/davits, solar, windvane or new electronics.

Quick shooting tips

  • Use landscape orientation for most listing platforms.
  • Shoot on a bright, calm day; avoid harsh midday shadows.
  • Stage each area (declutter, wipe surfaces, straighten cushions).
  • Keep image files clear and web-friendly (ideally < 2 MB each).
  • Maintain consistent angles and horizons for a professional look.
