Williams & Smithells will assist your surveyor with yacht details, history, arrange access to the yacht and/or boat yard, book or liaise with the yard for lift out, hull wash and block if required. Most surveyors like to be left to get on with the survey and will report back to the buyer direct after survey and before the report is written up. You should have a marine survey of any boat you are thinking of buying – motor or sailing boat -generally all but the smallest will need a pre-purchase survey or if you are buying a “project yacht”. Well qualified yacht surveyors have a mixture of experience, specialist training opportunities and the backing of a well established Professional Association. You will need a survey for insurance in due course so find out the condition before you buy. If you intend to register the boat, ask for the tonnage measurement to be done at the same time.
The marine surveyor may identify faults that the average boat owner will not be aware of, possibly using specialist equipment. Knowledge of faults and deterioration can assist the purchaser regarding associated rectification of defects or appropriate allowances.
The choice of surveyor is entirely down to the purchaser, making it impartial and specific to the buyer.
