Overview
Mimpi is not a project boat. She is a bluewater-proven, liveaboard-ready Moody 38CC that has been continuously and thoughtfully upgraded by owners who actually lived aboard and sailed her — 2,600 nautical miles across the Mediterranean, from Greece to Albania, Montenegro, Croatia, Turkey, and back.
Designed by Bill Dixon and built by Marine Projects in Plymouth in 1994, the Moody 38CC is one of the most respected centre cockpit cruisers of her era — strong, seaworthy, and practical for two people to handle offshore. Mimpi is the 4th owner, privately owned, never chartered, and has been treated accordingly.
She is ready to sail. Not “ready to sail with a few things to sort.” Ready.
Why Mimpi stands out
The electrical system is exceptional for a boat of this age
In February 2021, the entire electrical system was rebuilt from the ground up with Victron components: 530W of solar across four panels, twin 48V MPPT controllers, a Victron Multiplus 48V 5kVA inverter/charger, two 200Ah Victron Li-Ion domestic batteries, DC-DC converters, a new VE.Bus BMS, and complete recabling with new breaker boxes, bus bars and fuses. This is a professional-grade energy system that supports full liveaboard use — laptops, fridge, watermaker-ready circuitry, shore power — without running the engine. Replacement cost today for this system alone would exceed €10,000 installed.
The hull and underwater profile were stripped and rebuilt in 2023
Ten years of antifoul was stripped back to bare GRP and iron. Four coats of International Primocon epoxy undercoat were applied, followed by International Micron 300 antifoul (three coats). A single coat of Micron 350 was added in April 2024. This is the standard of preparation you would expect from owners who cared about longevity, not a quick sale.
The engine is well-maintained and documented
The original Volvo Penta MD22L-A (50HP) has 3,020 recorded hours as of March 2024. In a well-maintained diesel of this type, that is a mid-life figure, not an end-of-life figure. Regular servicing every 100 hours, impeller and belt changes, freshwater cooling system flushed every two years. Key spares — alternator, heat exchange elbow, impellers, belts, thermostats, fuel and oil filters — are aboard.
She is Category A ocean-rated
Mimpi holds CE Category A (Ocean) certification. She was built to cross oceans and has done exactly that.
The condition or level of safety equipment on board is not to be negotiated on following survey. It is likely to be listed by most surveyors but is not structural or an integral working part of the vessel and is not to be used to further negotiate the price down after survey. We strongly suggest that for your own personal safety that when purchasing a yacht you provide new safety equipment rather than relying on second hand gear.
Should you become the new owner of this yacht then the responsibility to re-register or update official bodies for items such as EPIRB, VHF, MMSI or AIS becomes yours.
